This is to notify the general public especially all Africans that the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Business Idea Startup Grant 2021 application portal is now open for all interested and eligible candidates who wish to apply for BIS Grant 2021.

What is BIS Grant?

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa B.I.S (Business. Idea. Startup) Grant is a grant opportunity for all African-based businesses, startups, and fundable ideas which award up to $25,000 to Africans with innovative ideas, brilliant startups, and growing businesses. So, whether it’s just an idea or an established business, the BIS grant programme is structured to assist you access funds.

Business Idea Startup Grant Programme Structure

B.I.S Grant aims to empower Africans to thrive in a daunting economy by equipping them with financing, training and mentorship. The process to acquire this grant is categorised into three stages.

  • Application Stage – Firstly, applicants shall apply via the online form below. Within 4-5 working days, an applicant should receive positive or negative feedback from the assessment team.
  • Interview Stage – Applicants who receive positive feedbacks shall have a virtual interview with a United Nations assessment representative. Within 48-72 hours, the interview result should be disclosed.
  • Verification Stage – The finalist shall go through a process of thorough verification before any disbursement can be initiated.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply for this grant, you must meet these must-have requirements;

  • Applicant must be above the age of 16 years and below 65 years.
  • Applicant must be a bona fide citizen of an African country.
  • Applicant must have at least completed secondary or high school education.
  • Conferencing Tool: Applicant must have a close-by device(Mobile phone or Laptop) to initiate a video conferencing call.

Criteria for Selection

If you wish to be successful in this grant, then you should consider these criteria’s carefully and make sure you consider them in your planning and application process.

Criteria used in evaluating applications and awarding grants include:

  • Financials: How the grant funds would really contribute to the growth of your idea, startup or business.
  • Integrity: Your application should be filled with accurate information because all claims will be verified.
  • Team: Explain why you or your team (if you are working with a team) is best equipped to execute your idea, startup or business.
  • Broader Impact: During the interview, share how the grant funds would impact your society at large.

Benefits

At the end of the application process, 5,000 participants would be selected to receive a grant of $25,000 in cash and $10,000 in training.

How to Apply for United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Business Idea Startup Grant 2021

Interested and eligible candidates for this grant are to complete their application form online by visiting the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa BIS grant application portal by clicking here before the application deadline.

During your application, you are to chose between ‘Inceptor’ and ‘Custodian’. An inceptor describes a person who has an idea, concept, or plan but is yet to execute it into business while A custodian describes a person who manages an existing startup or business.

  1. Hello Charles, Plz Clarify Me on This. Is it After The 24th Sept Deadline That They Will Give Us Feedback Or 4 -5 working days after Applying? Because The Notice Is Day 4-5 Working days After Application. Av Applied For Two weeks Now, No reply yet. Abi Is it after Application is closed on 24th Sept, plz clarify me
