About the UNFPA YPAAD
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is launching the second cohort of its programme to hire young talent from Africa and of African descent. The Young Professionals from Africa and of African Descent programme is a starting point for an exciting career with the United Nations, aiming to attract motivated young professionals with diverse academic and professional backgrounds.
Open to qualified candidates who are no older than 32 years of age as of 31 December 2022, who self-identify as a person of African descent or are a national of an African country, the programme offers an opportunity for selected candidates to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, international environment and the potential to grow into impactful leadership roles in international development.
About the Job
In 2022, UNFPA will recruit five young professionals to join the team at the UNFPA headquarters in New York. The young professionals will be offered a competitive salary and benefits package with an initial one-year fixed-term appointment at the P-2 level, renewable at least once, subject to satisfactory performance.

Requirements for United Nations Population Fund Recruitment
Interested persons should meet these requirements to be eligible for recruitment;
- Global Leadership and Talent Management Analyst
Education: Â
Advanced university degree in international development, business management, human resources management, or related field.
Knowledge and Experience:
•   2 years of experience in one or more of the following fields: human resources management, talent management, international development, business management, learning or related fields;
•   Experience in project management;
•   Exposure to the design and implementation of human resources and/ or talent management is desired e.g. learning, leadership development, career development;
•   Initiative, sound judgment, and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds;
•   Strong communication skills and, having worked with a variety of stakeholders;
•   First experience in HR or IT systems or ERP is desired;
•   Strong skills in PowerPoint, Excel, Word;
•   Well-developed data and analytics experience;
Languages:Â
Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is desirable.
- Inter-Country Cooperation Analyst
Qualifications and Experience Â
• Advanced university degree in social sciences, international development or related fields.
• At least 2 years of professional experience with relevance to development. Prior experience in developing countries is an asset.
• Familiarity with the UN system and its work.
• Fluency in English. Knowledge of other working languages of the UN is an asset.
• Ability to write clearly and concisely.
• Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.
- Legal Analyst
Education:
Advanced university degree in law.
Knowledge and Experience:Â
•   Two years of practical experience as a jurist/lawyer, in government and/or private practice;
•   Excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills in English;
•   Qualification to be admitted to the practice of law;
•   Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds;
Languages:Â
Fluency in English; proficiency in other official languages of the United Nations may be an additional asset.
- Business Development Analyst
Education:
Advanced university degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Law, International Relations/Politics, Social Sciences, Information Management, Data Science, Communications or related discipline.
Knowledge and Experience:Â
• 2 years of experience working in any kind of organization that runs on established business processes, practices, and rules.
• Ability to write clearly and concisely and communicate effectively.
• Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.
Languages:Â
Fluency in English; knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is desirable.
- Coordination and Policy Analyst
Education:Â Â
Advanced university degree in a relevant discipline and/or international relations.
Knowledge and Experience:Â
- 2 years of experience in working on international sustainable development-related areas. Competent candidates without prior UN experience are encouraged to apply;
- Ability to write and communicate clearly and concisely;
- Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint), social media platforms and graphic design.
Languages:Â
- Fluency in English is essential and proficiency in French is desirable; knowledge of other official UN languages is an asset.
