Sony’s leading game console remains primarily a device for playing games, but there are a few unsuspected opportunities in social media and collaboration with other devices.
1. Save a screenshot directly to your smartphone
You undoubtedly know the Share button: just press it and you can take a screenshot (or a short video clip). But how do you get it on your smartphone quickly? The fastest way is via Facebook by just sharing them with yourself, you can access them with the Facebook app and then save them between your smartphone photos. Â
2. Use your smartphone for the keyboard
Entering a name or code with your controller is quite a hassle. First, download the PS4 Second Screen app on it and pair it with the PS4 by carefully following the instructions on the app screen if you have both devices on the same network. The bottom line is that you give PS4 a code, which you then enter on the smartphone app to pair the two. Now when you see the keyboard on the TV screen, you also open the keyboard on Second Screen, and just use your smartphone for input.

3. Turn on the TV immediately
When the PS4 under Settings – System option Enable HDMI device connection box, then start your normal TV immediately when you turn on the console. Still saves some time and effort when you have just settled down on your couch and the remote control of your TV is just not within reach.
4. Continue to play on your iPhone
Since the most recent software update 6.50 of the operating system of the PS4, you can also stream game rumors on the (running) PS4 to your iPhone screen, so you can continue playing on them. For that, you first download the PS4 Remote Play app, after which you enter your PSN login details. Then you connect the two devices (the same way as just before with the Second Screen app), and hop: you can play Red Dead Redemption II on your smartphone! As long as the console continues to rumble at home, and provided your internet connection continues to pull. Do not do on mobile data!

Microsoft’s Xbox One has a less simple interface than the PS4. But if you carefully search all corners of it, you will come across a few surprises.
1. Stream games to your Windows 10 PC
The Xbox One can also stream, but only to a PC screen. Handy for when a roommate wants to take over the TV, but you have not yet gone out. First, download the Xbox app on your computer. Go to System – Settings – Preferences from the shortcut menu behind the Xbox button on your controller, and select Xbox app connectivity. Make sure everything is checked there. Then, from your PC, connect your Xbox app to the Xbox One. Then, when you choose one of the games in the Xbox app, select Play from the console.

2. Use your smartphone or tablet as a keyboard
Open or download the Xbox One app on your smartphone and make sure your smartphone and Xbox One are on the same WiFi network. Tap the Console item in the menu on the left, and select your – turned on – Xbox One. You can now see all your screenshots via this app, but also use it as a keyboard for entering codes, for example.
3. Save your game performance in 4K HDR
When you want to capture your performance in a game, it automatically happens at 1080p or the so-called Full HD resolution. But on an Xbox One X version, if you have at least a TV that can handle that, you can also put it in the highest resolution – 4K – and in High Dynamic Range if your TV supports it. To do that, go to Settings – System – Preferences – Broadcast & Capture – Game Clip Resolution, and choose 4K HDR there. You can only make clips of a maximum of thirty seconds, as they take up considerably more memory space. And they are automatically converted to 1080p when you share them on Xbox Live. They will only remain on your Xbox One itself in 4K or you can upload them to OneDrive in that highest resolution.

4. Order something to eat
Hungry during a long game rumors session, nothing left in the house and no sense in sticking your nose out? Then simply order directly from the Xbox One. For example, with Takeaway.com, a site that brings together the home delivery offerings of multiple restaurants in your area. You can of course also quickly get your smartphone for that, but the Xbox One app from Takeaway is very convenient to operate: just enter your zip code and the options are presented to you in handy blocks.
