Twitter Launches New Election Feature: Who Can See the New Twitter Features?

The new features are available to users in countries where elections are taking place and will allow them to report fake and misleading information directly to Twitter within the election period.

How to Find the New Twitter Feature

To report any post as fake or misleading, a user is required to click on the drop-down arrow at the top of the post on the right-hand side and select the report tweet option then select any of the following new options;

  • “It’s misleading about voting,”
  • “It’s abusive or harmful.” etc

Once any of these options are selected, the user will be prompted to give more details and after which click on the send button.

According to Twitter, the essence of this feature is to make sure people don’t use the platform for “the purpose of manipulating or interfering in elections.” This includes giving out false or misleading information about how to vote and the requirements for voting, as well as making misleading statements about individuals involved in elections.

Although the change can be seen as small, it gives users the flexibility to report issues related to election and also provide Twitter enough data as to how the platform is used during the election process.
