 Facts About the AWIEF Nedbank Growth Accelerator Program

Obtaining finance is the biggest challenge to the development of businesses owned by African women. Bankability and investment readiness are the main obstacles to attracting corporate financing. AWIEF Growth Accelerator program aims at meeting the unique needs of early and growth-oriented female-led businesses through business modeling, growth strategy training, corporate consulting, guidance, networking, and access to strategic partnerships.

The program provides financing support for growth, scale, and sustainability. It strengthens women’s entrepreneurial leadership, connects women with appropriate funding sources, and helps them scale up.

Since 2017, more than 100 early adult female founders have participated in the accelerator program. For this group in 2021, 20 female entrepreneurs will be selected from the following fields;

  • technology,
  • agribusiness,
  • financial services,
  • manufacturing,
  • health,
  • education,
  • tourism and hospitality,
  • creative industries and
  • renewable energy.

After six months of successful hard work and being challenged, as part of the AWIEF Growth Accelerator cohort, you will be ready to tell your story and showcase your business to the world. At that point, the program offers you the following;

  • Three two-day boot camps.
  • Masterclasses: international expert-led sessions covering all scaling fundamentals.
  • One-on-one tailored mentorship and leadership coaching.
  • Corporate partners: connection to corporates in your industry for valuable partnership opportunities, and as customers.
  • Access to investors: get connected to opportunities with Nedbank and active VCs, impact, and angel investors looking to invest in African women-led ventures.
  • Pitch n GrowÔ: Demo day/pitching event at the 7th annual AWIEF Conference and
  • Awards (AWIEF2021) scheduled to take place on 2nd and 3rd December 2021.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

To apply for this program, your businesses must be;

  • South African Exempt Micro Enterprises (EMEs) or Qualifying Small Enterprises (QSEs); with at least 50% female black-owned.
  • Business should be in a post-revenue phase.
  • Your business must be a scalable and innovative venture.
  • The business must have been in operation for not less than three years.
  • Business should be owned or led by ambitious and committed women entrepreneurs.
  • Businesses must be seeking investment or funding to scale.
