What is the African Women Development Fund(AWDF)
The AWDF is a grantmaking foundation that supports local, national, and regional women’s organizations working towards the empowerment of African women and the promotion and realization of their rights. By specializing in grant-making and focused tailored movement-building programs, AWDF works to strengthen and support the work of African women’s organizations.

Who Can Apply For AWDF Grant?
The African Women Development Fund grant is meant for anyone passionate about advancing women’s rights and creating systemic change, if you are one of such persons, then you can apply for a grant in one or more of the thematic areas listed below:

Categories of African Women Development Fund Grant
Applications are currently open in the following grant areas
- ECONOMIC SECURITY & JUSTICE
- BODY & HEALTH RIGHTS
- LEADERSHIP, PARTICIPATION & PEACE

How to Apply
AWDF is happy to invite applications for grants from all eligible women-led and women’s rights groups and organizations in Africa and parts of the Middle East (Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, and Yemen).

African Women Development Fund 2025 Grant Cycles
The AWDF grant application cycle has commenced with the first application phase already open on February 27, through April 2nd. This grant section is focused on the following category of organization;
- Organizations working in French-speaking African countries
- Organizations working in two or more African countries
- Organizations led by young women
- LBTQI-led organizations
- Organizations led by women living with disabilities
- Sexual violence and Women Rights Organisations
There are two major options open in this cycle and they are;
- The main grant is for African women-led organizations registered and operating in Africa.
- The Kasa! is for African women-led organizations registered and operating in Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal and working in the fight against sexual violence.

Application Deadline
