How to Apply for FG Student Loan In Nigeria 2025
This is to notify the general public especially Nigerian Students that the application form portal for the federal government student loan scheme has been opened for all interested and eligible applicants to submit their application form. About FG Student Loan
The Student Loan program is an initiative of the President Tinubu-led federal government and the initiative is aimed at breaking financial barriers in Nigerian higher education by providing interest-free loans to students in tertiary institutions across the country with the hope of fundamentally reshaping the educational landscape of Nigeria for good.
The student loan program follows three key steps which include;
- Register on the Student Loan Application Platform
- Request for Student Loan by completing the loan application steps
- Application review and disbursement of funds

Requirements for FG Student Loan In Nigeria
There are basic requirements that every applicant is meant to meet to be eligible for a student loan and they include the;
Fresh Students
- Provision of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration number
- National Identification Number (NIN)
- Bank Verification Number (BVN),
Existing Students
- Existing students who seek to take the loan would need to provide their matriculation number and
- Student ID
- Passport Photograph
Other personal details would also be required while completing the application form.
How to Apply for FG Student Loan In Nigeria
Interested and eligible candidates are to submit their application forms online via the FG student loan application portal at https://portal.nelf.gov.ng while on the portal, you are to click on the apply now button to begin your application process.

How to Apply for Student Loan in Nigeria
- Visit the above portal, click on Apply now, and select “Yes I am a Nigerian”
- Next, select verify educational information then select your institution from the list provided then provide your matriculation number or JAMB registration number in the space provided and click on verify.
- After a successful profile creation, login to your email click on the verification link sent to you, and then log in to the portal. When you log in, you are expected to provide other details such as;
- Your Full name, contact information, date of birth, academic information (course of study, institution, level of study), and financial details (income, expenses, other funding sources).
- You will also be required to upload your passport and other documents where necessary.
